Four-season tent review

Our Fjellheimen X-TREM 3 Camp is a popular 4-season tent, and again awarded as the best tent – this time by Vi Menn magazine

“The best tent”

A tunnel tent with an internal height of approx. 110 cm. Mosquito mesh in all openings and vents. Three vents. Stormflaps. Compression bag with compression straps. Rod extension piece, and repair patches. Also available as 2- and 4-person.

Usage

Stable and solid tent that is easy to pitch the tent, even when wearing mittens. Inner-tent and outer-flysheet can be pitched simultaneously. Ample guy lines. Three good vents for good airflow. The vestibule is well sized, suitable for cooking. It might be difficult to get the outer tent fabric really tight, if you’re on uneven ground. The compression bag is a little bit small. A solid tent, good size and nice weight.

Pros: Size, weight and quick pitching of the tent. Very good as an all-rounder.

Cons: Requires a good camping spot.

How the tents are tested

Most of the tents were tested over the course of a whole year – during summer and winter conditions – and on different types of terrain, by five different individuals. All of the tents were pitched in the same “test camp” for a 10-day period, so they could be compared on stability, quality, waterproofness and drying ability. The tents were checked once or twice a day, and guy lines adjusted as required. The tents were pitched and packed away several times to check if the compression bag was suitable. The test camp was located in open forest terrain, 400m above sea level. Test period weather conditions were moderate to strong winds, aprox. 10°C, and a lot of rain.
