Construction

Resulting from a combination of our decades of experience plus invaluable input from our gear testers and customers, our tents have an aerodynamic construction that optimizes floor area use. Helsport’s tent collection includes three different construction models: tunnel, dome and lavvu. Each with their pros and cons, the three tent types are adapted for different usage; it’s important to choose the right type for your needs.

TUNNEL TENTS: In 1970 Helsport launched the world’s first tunnel tent, and it remains our most common tent design, used in everything from our Superlight range to our expedition tents. With design benefits like a low weight:volume ratio, and quick and easy pitching, this tent model is perfect for those who move camp often.

DOME TENTS:  Designed with crossed poles, our dome tents are sturdy and stable. Although slightly heavier than a tunnel tent and a little slower to pitch, they can withstand plenty of wind and snow. Helsport’s dome tent collection consists of both freestanding and non-freestanding tents. Freestanding tents can be used without pegs and guy lines, and are perfect for rocky and hard ground surfaces, however we recommend guy line and peg use whenever possible.

LAVVU: The great benefit of the lavvu design is its interior height and comfort. The tall single centre pole design creates steep walls that easily shed rain and snow. The height of the lavvu, combined with its steep walls, does require sturdy use of guy lines for withstanding strong winds.
